Hike & Hot Meal Series
No matter what time of year, we want to give you reasons to GO PLAY OUTSIDE. Our hike series will take you to various trails in the river hills and hopefully expose you to some of the best kept secrets right in your own backyard. Our hikes include a shuttle, guide and hearty meal. Each hike is marked with its degree of difficulty. Don’t stay inside…GO PLAY OUTSIDE!

Did you know that the Lower Susquehanna is the site of a tectonic cave – a cavern formed by layers of shifting rock versus the typical limestone and water formation? Following a hike to the entrance, enter the cave and explore the twists and turns of this unique formation located on the Conestoga Trail in Lancaster County. Following your spelunking adventure you will enjoy a hearty hot lunch back at Shank’s Mare.Fee – $45/Person(BYOB permissible to enjoy with meal).

In conjunction with the 16th Annual Watershed Weekend sponsored by the Watershed Alliance of York, join Shank's Mare staff as they lead you on a short hike to Fishing Creek where you'll use strainers, kick nets, and magnifiers to find all the critters that live in the stream. Then, rate the health of the stream by the critters that you find living there. It's fun, it's wet, and you'll learn the importance of streams that feed into the Susquehanna River. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Free to all, but please register to we have an idea of how many will join us for this fun activity.Free Program
