Shank’s Mare’s Friday Night Unwind, held the second Friday of each month, is a great excuse to head to the river and relax. We’ll be providing live entertainment from 7-9pm. During the cold weather months we’ll be in Shank’s Mare’s The Rookery meeting room. In warmer months, we’ll be outside with music set up on our beautiful front porch overlooking the River. Food is available in the Lock 2 Café, or the Rookery. BYOB, blankets, chairs, etc. No reservations necessary.

WindCave Exploration, Hike & Lunch

Did you know that the Lower Susquehanna is the site of a tectonic cave – a cavern formed by layers of shifting rock versus the typical limestone and water formation? Here’s your chance to take a guided tour of this unique cave located on the Conestoga Trail in LancasterCounty. Your day will begin at Shank’s Mare with a shuttle to the trailhead. Hike in and explore the cave with our guides. Following your spelunking adventure, stop at the Lock 12 Historic Area and enjoy a delicious trailside lunch. Fee includes shuttle, guides and lunch.

Winter & Spring in the Vineyard - Vineyard Hike & Hot Mulled Wine

With Shank’s Mare & Moon Dancer Winery

Meet at Moon Dancer Winery and join Shank’s Mare as we take a leisurely hike through the vineyards. The day begins with Winemaker Jim Miller giving us a tour of the wine cellars. Then he will guide us through the vines sharing information on the seasonal stages of a working vineyard as we enjoy beautiful countryside and Susquehanna River views. We’ll have a delicious Shank’s Mare lunch with mulled wine by a campfire along the trail. Then, relax with live music back at the tasting bar as you complete a most enjoyable day with Shank’s Mare and Moon Dancer Winery.

Fee includes hike/tour, lunch and wine tasting.

Join us for this very special evening with Shank’s Mare and Moon Dancer Winery. Begin the night at Shank’s Mare’s The Rookery with hors d’oeuvres and a wine tasting hosted by Winemaker, Jim Miller. Steve’s presentation brings the canal to life as you enjoy dinner in “The Rookery” at Shank’s Mare – a real-life canal general store. Paddle Evening Rendezvous

Kick off the Summer Paddle Evening Rendezvous

It’s time to kick off this popular Shank’s Mare program for 2010. Enjoy a leisurely paddle at dusk on the Susquehanna River. This paddle is suitable for beginners, will be led by our experienced guides, and rental kayaks are available. Following this very relaxing evening paddle, participants will retire to Shank’s Mare’s meeting room The Rookery for a delicious dinner by candlelight overlooking the beautiful Susquehanna. Enjoy great paddling, great food, and camaraderie with your fellow paddlers. Reservations and pre-payment are required, and tables may be reserved in advance for couples or groups.
