Did you know that the Lower Susquehanna is the site of a tectonic cave – a cavern formed by layers of shifting rock versus the typical limestone and water formation? Following a hike to the entrance, enter the cave and explore the twists and turns of this unique formation located on the Conestoga Trail in Lancaster County. Following your spelunking adventure you will enjoy a hearty hot lunch back at Shank’s Mare.

New WorkOutdoors Exercise Programs at Shank’s Mare
We are pleased to introduce a new series of programs at Shank’s Mare designed to combine physical fitness routines with the benefits of being outdoors. These programs are led by Shank’s Mare staffer and certified physical trainer Heather Geare. Watch for additional programs…here’s our start!
Sun. November 24 or December 8, 2019, 10:00am-Noon
Meet at the trailhead for Highpoint Scenic Vista just south of Wrightsville. Tackle an invigorating hike to the peak of Highpoint where you will marvel at a spectacular view of the river hills. With this as your backdrop, follow your guide and instructor, Heather Geare, in an exercise session designed to improve balance and stability. Balance is your ability to control your body without movement against gravity. Stability is your ability to control your body during movement.
Both balance and stability are important areas to focus on because they ensure that we can control our bodies during a particular movement. Following your hike back down the trail, head just a few minutes down the road to Shank’s Mare and top off your morning with special brews and teas that promote wellness. Fresh air, beneficial exercise, and soothing refreshments…what a way to begin your day!
Fee – includes hike, instruction, and refreshments - $25/Person.
