Paddle Day Tour - John Wright (Wrightsville) to Shank's Mare
Head downriver from Wrightsville and enter the area of the Susquehanna called Lake Clarke formed by the Safe Harbor Dam at its southernmost point. Explore the entry of many creeks on this stretch of the river including Kreutz Creek, Kline’s Run, Canadochly Creek, Cabin Branch, Fox, Bull Run, and Fishing Creek. Follow in the footprint of the 1800's era Susquehanna-Tidewater Canal. A picnic lunch is provided. Rental kayaks are available or use your own gear. Paddlers will meet us at Shank's Mare and be shuttled to the put-in at the Wrightsville Boro boat ramp.
Our paddling pace is leisure as we explore Lake Clarke on the Susquehanna. The tour is 6 miles of paddling.
Materials Included:
Fee includes all your gear, guides, shuttle from take-out to put-in, lunch, and Riverkeeper donation. There is a fee noted if you have your own kayak and gear.
Requirements:
Participants should wear clothing suitable for watersports as well as water shoes (no flip flops). We recommend cool weather clothing (no cotton), nylon shell or paddling jacket, hat with a brim and water bottle.
Instructor Bio:
Shank's Mare instructors have years of experience leading participants on paddle tours. They will share highlights of the Susquehanna River sure to give you a valuable "sense of place" on your paddle tour.
